Mitchell & Brown are now proud sponsors of Wyre Juniors. A club that has been established since 1976, evolved from a successful school side at Fleetwood’s Cardinal Allen to a successful Saturday league side.
Founded by Frank Whelan, a local business man that took the school side virtually intact to play in the Blackpool Youth League. The team played under the name of Thornton Sacred Heart that had three seasons together, staying near the top of the league and playing in the Hogan cup Final at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road.
With all the success Frank looked to find other teams around the area, and found two teams playing at U12 and U16, with a new name of Churchills JFC played the following season. Expansion took place over the following few seasons and by 1981 the club fielded six teams from U9s up to U14s.
In 1984 a decision was made for a final name change to Wyre Juniors FC, this gave the club a more geographical identity and helped attract players from all over the borough.
Local competition with the formation of other teams and clubs in close proximity to Wyre JFC has provided a fresh challenge but one that the club relishes.
Wyre Juniors FC is now a well-established and run organisation providing football for hundreds of youngsters. To support their current ambitions Mitchell & Brown are sponsoring their training kits.
