Mitchell and Brown Celebrates First Employee Ownership Day 2023

Mitchell and Brown a division of TVD Group, celebrated its first Employee Ownership Day and previewed its flagship AV trade showroom that will open officially this summer.

Earlier this year we transitioned to employee ownership after being a family-owned business for nearly 30 years! We celebrated with a companywide celebration on EO day which entailed a preview of the newly constructed AV showroom along with games, quizzes and food and drinks!

Following the transition to 51% employee ownership, Bolton’s TVD Group marked its first EO Day with an employee-wide networking event that included a preview tour of the brand’s new AV trade showroom, which will open this summer. The showroom houses a variety of Mitchell and Brown TVs for professional clients to view, as well as a full range of audio and visual equipment.

TVD now employs over 50 people from its Bolton base and is integrating its core values as a family business into its new structure with the employees at the heart of its ambitious sustainable growth plans.

“TVD Group has gone from strength to strength based on our commitment to customer service, our staff, and the local Bolton community,” comments TVD Managing Director, Lucia Maguire.

“The transition to majority employee ownership is a natural extension of our commitment to our employees, the area, and the business. Employee ownership has been shown to improve employee engagement, boost productivity and fuel progress, and will enable the business to continue to grow and flourish in Bolton long into the future,” added Lucia.

TVD’s new Technology Experience Centre showroom will officially open later this summer, but the brand’s new co-owners had a chance to preview the new trade-only space. Featuring extensive products from its suppliers, training facilities and demonstration areas, this state-of-the-art almost 1000 square feet facility showcases the best new products from the brands that have been pivotal in TVD’s growth over almost three decades.

The Employee Ownership Day brought together employees from every department of TVD Group to network, exchange ideas, and celebrate shared ownership. The ‘team’ feel was enhanced by ‘Co-Owner’ T-shirts, games and presentations about different departments and processes to enable employees to understand every aspect of the business. TVD’s local heritage and family values of customer service which have underpinned three decades of growth were set out as key business drivers into the future.

With guidance from the Employee Ownership Association, TVD’s transition from a family-owned business to a corporate entity where employees have a 51% stake in the company through a managed employee Trust, was completed in the spring of this year. With an employee committee now on board, TVD Groups’ plans for the future will be driven by the people who will directly benefit the most – the employees. New employees will be eligible to join the EO scheme after 12 months of service, making the company ever more attractive for prospective employees in the Bolton area.

“The day-to-day running of the business hasn’t changed,” says Lucia. “Customers and suppliers will continue to have the same great relationships with TVD they have become accustomed to. However, with increased engagement and motivation across the workforce, we hope to harness the benefits of employee ownership, which will also have a positive impact on our customers and suppliers.”
