Why Do I Need To Enter A TV PIN For My Mitchell & Brown TV?

In recent times, you may have noticed that your Mitchell & Brown Smart TV has prompted you to create a TV PIN when turning it on. Within this article, we explore why Smart TV models are now asking for consumers to enter a TV PIN on their TV.

Why am I being asked for a TV PIN?

In May 2024, the UK government brought in the Product, Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act.

This legislation now requires consumer connectable products, aka Smart products, to comply with the act.

The primary focus of this legislation is to protect your personal data on your appliance. For consumers, this Act and its new legislation now means that any Smart product will need to meet the minimum-security requirements.

What does this mean for you?

If you have bought a Mitchell & Brown Smart TV, upon initial setup, you will be prompted to enter a new TV PIN. This is not something you should worry about, as this measure is simply to protect your personal data on your Smart product.

It may be the case that you have purchased your model before the PSTI Act had been implemented. Once again, you don’t need to worry as an over-the-air update will include a TV PIN prompt in due course.

Will I need this TV PIN again?

On your Mitchell & Brown TV, the use of a TV PIN may depend based on TV type, age of the model etc. In the most generic way, a TV PIN will be required when accessing the internal TV system settings. It is important to keep a note of this TV PIN should you need to make any changes on the internal unit.
